Kyoto Humanoid Association (KyoHA) unveils manufacturing system for developing 100% Made-in-Japan humanoid robots and details about robots to be produced
Design for Wellbeing Murata’s vision for the future of humans and robots
We believe that robots will evolve beyond doing simple tasks in place of humans to assist in making decisions,
be entrusted to make decisions, and eventually share our lives and values.
Advancing to the next phase of growth of the robotics industry
Companies in the robotics industry are attempting to divide the processes of development, operation, and sales among each other to accommodate diverse applications and social issues while concurrently seeking out the optimal division of roles and responsibilities. In this context, Murata aims to help expedite the growth of the industry by connecting individual efforts, with mutual respect for each.
Murata’s approach
Using design and manufacturing technology to help value reach society
Murata will both create—that is, engage in the process of working with partners to adjust and refine based on design and manufacturing—and test—that is, engage in trial and error to verify social value—in order to gain a concrete understanding of issues on the front lines for customers and the fundamentals of value creation, in an effort to continuously meet the needs of customers by developing and providing products that underpin industry.
Examples of initiatives
Initiative 1Creation: Creating functional units
Participation in the Kyoto Humanoid Association (KyoHA)
KyoHA is a framework for industrial collaboration geared toward developing 100% made-in-Japan humanoid robots by pooling Japanese hardware technologies. Participants include Waseda University, tmsuk, Murata Manufacturing, SRE Holdings, and others.
While integrating technology by bringing together the strengths of each company in housing, drive and control systems, and other areas, we will stockpile development expertise in individual functional units and funnel the resulting knowledge back into the initiatives of each company.
Initiative 2Testing: Establishing environments
Securing demonstration space with partners
We have established a laboratory in the Murata Manufacturing Minato MIRAI Innovation Center.
*Not open to the public
Meeting this goal will jump-start business discussions with partners and vigorously encourage rapid market launches for both us and our partners.
Initiative 3Testing: Verifying functional value
Example: Exhibiting at Japan Mobility Show 2025
We use showcases as opportunities to verify product-market fit (PMF). Through dialogue with end users, we study how to create opportunities and responses that make people happy with solutions. We are establishing a style of verifying intrinsic value without the complexity.
To the partners we work with in
building the foundations of this industry
Do you want to move beyond the possibilities of robotics and mobility as simply a concept
to implementing them in the real world?
We want to work together with companies and researchers who do.
If your company is interested in this initiative, please feel free to contact us using the inquiry form.
FAQ
Under this initiative, we have no intention of sticking to specific products. We want to find ways to contribute as much as possible by providing solutions, modules, and components in consultation with our customers and partners.
At present, we have no plans for direct sales from our company. We expect the robots to be developed within KyoHA and to be provided through whichever companies are responsible for them, based on discussions with the participating companies.
At present, we are only able to offer co-creation spaces in the Kanto region, but please feel free to contact us about co-creation options in other regions so that we can discuss them with you.
